So, Spring is almost here and I’ve noticed that oxfords are still around and still going strong. I remember writing about the new wave of oxfords last July, and how they’re being updated with bold prints and cut out details so they can cater to a wider female audience. This Spring, they’re back with a vengeance. Miista has the iridescent Zoe, Rachel Antonoff for Bass favorites are back, and Messeca’s all about the Maxes.

You’re probably asking: who’s that guy and what the hell does he have to do with the shoes. Well, he’s Max, a character from Happy Endings, one of my favorite comedies right now. Other than the name, I think that Max’s personality works as a pretty good description of the Max oxford. It has a masculine and chunky silhouette, yet it’s clear and delicate. Max is the gay friend from H.E. although he doesn’t fit the “gay stereotype” because he doesn’t have the mannerisms or high voice that characters from let’s say Modern Family (or Elijah from Girls) have. But he likes cute things (AKA very cute guys) and can be a very honest  bitch (This is where the clear description comes in). I love him, he’s hilarious.

Now back to shoe talk. Max has some similarities to Rachel Antonoff for Bass’ cutout oxford but Messeca’s Max has more clear detail, a chunkier sole and heel, and a matte finish, plus look at the floral one at your upper right and the teal at the upper left. I’ve never seen a shoe like that floral oxford, so a tip of the flower crown to Messeca for making such a girly shoe for Spring 2013.
