Hoy mientras me estaba preparando para salir a las oficinas de gobierno (sabiendo que es feriado) decidí procrastinar un rato y modificar un “jacket” mahón que lleva años en el clóset. Para los que no sabían, las piezas hechas con mahón o mezclilla están muy en moda este año y cuando hablo de piezas no estoy hablando de pantalones (Blusas, zapatos, carteras, etc.). Como el calor esta fuerte para ponerse un “jacket” con mangas y los “jacket” están caros lo mejor es buscar y reciclar.

While I was getting ready to run some errands this morning I decided to procrastinate for a bit and modify a denim jacket that I haven’t worn in years. For those that don’t read magazines or anything fashion related, denim pieces (other than jeans) have been making a comeback this year and it seems it’s going to get stronger in the next few months. Since the heat is too much to be wearing a sleeved jacket and denim jackets are a bit overpriced, the best option is to look in your closet and recycle.

Materiales

• Descosedora: Si no tienes una no hay problema porque puedes usar una tijera y unas pinzas.
• “Jacket” mahón ligeramente usado

Materials

• Seam ripper: If you don’t have one don’t worry because you can use some scissors and a pair of tweezers.
• Used denim jacket

Ahora que tienes los materiales el procedimiento es sencillo. Si tienes la descosedora comienza a descocer los hilos de las mangas. Si estas usando la tijera corta los hilos que conectan la manga al resto del “jacket”. Con las pinzas halas lo que no puedas cortar y luego cuando termines hala los hilos residuos. Luego puedes hacer lo que quieras con el “jacket”. Las ventajas del mahón es que los errores no se notan porque hay tantos estilos con muchas alteraciones. Así que mete mano sin miedo.

Now that you have the materials the process is easy. If you have the seam ripper, start ripping the seams that connect the sleeve to the jacket. If you’re using the scissors cut the seams that connect the sleeve to the rest of the jacket. Use the tweezers to pull the thread that’s hard to get by scissors and then you use the tweezers to get rid of any residual thread left. After that, feel free to do whatever you want with it. The good thing about denim is that mistakes aren’t noticeable because of all the variations and alterations. So don’t be afraid to get crazy.
